Chencharu, Yishun housing area to produce 10,000 new homes as the first BTO launch in this month

The government announced the development plans of a 70-hectare HDB residential estate located in Chencharu. The new development will add about 10,000 homes to the area by 2040. About 80% are public housing.

The area borders Yishun Avenue 1, Yishun Avenue 2, and Sembawang Road. HDB reports that the area was designated for residential usage since Master Plan 2019. The area is home to several horticulture companies and hydroponics farms. It also has exporters of ornamental, freshwater fish.

According to HDB’s press release on June 12, design plans for Chencharu will leverage the area’s rich history and heritage as well as the existing proximity to transportation points.

The development will integrate existing amenities like HomeTeamNS Khatib Khatib Central Neighbourhood Centre as well the Khatib North-South Line Station and Khatib Metro.

HDB said that plans are in place for a future new nursing home, as well as a school.
